It’s not great to praise an exhibition once it’s finished and no-one else can go, but “World Ikat Textiles … ties that bind” was amazing. I went to see it in June on the final day. The textiles were stunning and included both antique and contemporary cloth from India, China, Japan, South East and Central Asia, Europe, Africa and Latin America.
I’ve always loved Japanese designs and the silk ikats from Uzbekistan but had no idea that ikat was woven in Mexico, for example (or that it would remind me so much of Missoni). Some of the contemporary designs were particularly beautiful.
